Annual Disinfection Change
Gulf Coast Water Authority's Thomas S Mackey Water Plant completes an annual disinfection of the Treated Water Transmission and Distribution System by subjecting the system to a cleaning process which assures it remains free of biofilm growth. During this process, a switch is made from using chloramines to free chlorine only to disinfect treated water. TCEQ approval is required to complete the two (2) week process.

It will take place from April 3, 2017 to April 17, 2017
The only disinfectant in the treated water during the two (2) week period will be
The chlorine residual will be between 2.5 and 3.2 parts per million.
The water will have a chlorine odor.
This is a temporary measure which is necessary to continually provide high quality consumable water.
The potable water is safe for consumption and meets state standards during the annual disinfection change.
